Spring/Summer 2010 Make-up Palettes

For S/S 2010, the catwalks boasted fresh-faced, natural, pretty looks in greys, taupes, nudes, and pastels, highlighted with bursts of color such as lilac, baby blue, pink, and sunshine yellow. Recreate the look with these amazing products.

Face

Skin is slightly satiny with a flawless glow and a fresh finish that’s perfect for warmer temps.

The key to a good base is great prep.

Cleanse and moisturize your skin, and use a primer to achieve the ideal base, followed by a light and natural foundation.

Apply blusher to the apples of your cheeks, and bronzer to those places on your face that naturally catch the sun.

Moisturize

Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford Antioxidant Day Crème SPF 20, $29.75. Glides on and absorbs quickly, giving your skin added protection from the sun and some powerful anti-aging oxidants to boot.

Prime

Too Faced Primed & Poreless, $30. Wear alone under bronzer, or as a base for foundation. It delivers the bright, fresh, flawless look it promises.

Base

Yves Saint Laurent Matt Touch Foundation SPF 10, $52. My all-time favorite foundation – the silky-soft texture glides effortlessly onto your skin, providing oil-controlling coverage that’s perfect for warmer weather.

Bronze

Jemma Kidd Show Stopper Water-Resistant Bronzer, $23. A flattering terracotta with a hint of shimmer.

Blush

Sue Devitt Hydrating Marine Minerals Destination Eye & Cheek Palette-Solomon Islands, $37.50. Stunning powder-palette in the season’s hottest shades – ideal for adding color to cheeks and eyes.

Refresh

Mai Couture Blotting Papers, $16-$33. Light enough to fit into any purse, these fabulous new papers keep your skin oil free and fresh with color. No wonder the Kardashians and Camilla Alves are fans – this product is pure genius.

Eyes

The eye remains colorful, but now in pastel hues (throw out the neons!), which lend the look an elegant polish.  Think sky blue, turquoise, lilac, and white. Wear them in a two-tone color contrast for an on-trend look. Our tip? Wet your eye shadow brush to get brighter pastel shades for a pop of color. Meanwhile, keep eyeliner soft in brown or blue shades rather than black. And add life to winter make-up by investing in ivory and white shadows, which instantly soften darker makeup, but also look great worn alone with a summer tan.

Top picks to achieve this look:

Cargo Color Palette, Los Angeles, $28. Powdery pastel shades in every color you need for this season’s hottest looks: mint green, gorgeous lilac, aquatic blue, and a fabulous ivory.

Mark Color Creams for Eyes, $6 each. For S/S we are loving the new shades Ticklish, Cabana, Icon, and Mod. The smooth, creamy texture glides onto your eyes for an instant pop of color.

Bronzed Beauty

As always when the mercury rises, another key trend is for a healthy, sun-kissed look. Make-up – think teracotta bronzers swept over the face – is great for achieving a warm, radiant glow, but be careful with application. Our top tip? When applying powdered bronzer, imagine you’re drawing a number “3” on the side of your face with your blusher brush to guarantee you always hit the right spots and achieve a natural look.  Keep everything else au naturel – eyes simply kissed with colour, and lips are delicately stained with neutral shades, or a light rose gloss.

Top picks to achieve this look:

Noah’s Naturals Glowing Bronzer Fluid, $17.99. A safe, sun-free tan in a bottle. Use alone, or mix with your moisturizer and build up to the color you desire.

Vapour Organic Beauty Solar Translucent Bronzer, $34. Three bronze tones in an all-in-one, cream-to-powder stick formulation (we like Spicy) that will add bronze tones to your eyes, lips, and cheeks.

Koh Gen Do Fresh Face Cheek Color, $38. A Japanese import that’s a favorite with celebrities and make-up artists, now available Stateside. The Fresh Face cheek color features a gorgeous formulation and fabulous application.  We love the Apricot Peach and Caramel Bronze for summer.

Lips

Lips are simple: they should be soft, sensual, and plump. Keep them pink, in soft rose or coral shades, and either perfectly matte, or glamorized with glosses.
