Tips For Healthy Hair

Throughout summer’s frizz-inducing humidity and sun damage or winter’s cold, dry air and exposure to overused heaters, your hair goes through severe stress.

You might iron, blow dry, curl and straighten to your hearts content, but how can you keep that gorgeous head of hair shiny and strong with all that abuse?

Here are a few tips to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy throughout the year, no matter what beauty trend, or climate change, you may face.

1. Be gentle in the shower

It sounds like common sense, but take the extra time to scrub your hair gently in the shower and condition it with a nourishing treatment. Finish your conditioner off with a temperature change to cool water, which will make the hair follicles lie flat, and prevent the risk of hair breaking when combing it wet.

2. Eat and Sleep

Hair is an important part of the body, and you should treat it well with rest and a healthy diet. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water will help flush out toxins that may otherwise end up in your less than lustrous locks.

A rubber band can be a dangerous weapon when placed in a thick head of hair. Make sure you choose accessories that are hair friendly, and that you don’t over style, or choose barrettes that damage the hair.

Make sure to choose the right product for the type of hair you have. If you color your hair, do not wash it and blow dry it every day, as that will dry it out and cause breakage.

Choose hydrating products that will nourish your hair, and stay away from products that contain alcohol, as they will absorb too much moisture.

5.  Go back to basics

Try rinsing your hair once a week with apple cider vinegar to remove excess buildup from your scalp before you shampoo.

It will make a huge difference in the texture, and give you that extra shine you wish to achieve.
