Charlize Theron: Beauty Look of the Week – Bronze Smoky Eyes

More often than not, celebrity beauty looks go unnoticed in favor of bold fashion choices or horrendous styling. Celebrities miss the mark as often as they hit it, especially when it comes to beauty, so tFS has decided to celebrate the hits with a new series. Every week we will highlight one great beauty look and tell you why it works and how you can make the look work for you.

Who: Charlize Theron

Where: The Launch Of DIOR VII

Why we like it:  The bronzed smoky eye is a welcome change from the layers of black kohl that we’re accustomed to seeing on the red carpet. The reason this look works so well rests on the trusty color wheel. The warm russet tones of Theron’s eye makeup make her blue eyes pop. Paired with the neutral blush gloss, she achieves a Brigitte Bardot-esque smolder without the harsh lines of a dark black smoky eye.

How to get it at home: While the bronze eye works great for Theron, keep in mind your skin tone before trying it. Bronze tones look great with darker skin or those with a natural tan. For this look try using Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze ($38). The real lesson that comes out of this look is that a smoky eye doesn’t have to be black. Try applying a smoky eye as usual but add a subtle layer of navy, plum, or even wine-toned reds to bring your smoky eye to the next level. Illamasqua’s Powder Eye Shadow in Never ($20) is a matte navy and a great place to start. With highlighter on your cheeks and an understated lip, this look works perfectly for a night out. Try NARS’ Lip Gloss in Chihuahua ($24) to get that warm blush tone on your lips.

As for hair, it’s hard to go wrong with a classic chignon. Finger waves may be hard to achieve easily at home, but a with a wide-barrelled curling iron and some texturizing product, such as Bumble and bumble’s Texture Hair (Un) Dressing Creme ($26), it can be simple. The product will not only help hold the texture in the loose face-framing curls, but will also add lift to your chignon.
