Beyonce: Beauty Look of the Week

Who: Beyonce

Where: The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards

Why we like it: One of the first ‘rules’ of beauty is you should never match your makeup to your outfit. But like other such rules (pink and red, navy and black, white after Labor Day), it is often ignored. A glowingly pregnant Beyonce shone at the VMAs by pairing a palette of warm corals with accents of silver and bronze.

How to get it at home: While it would be difficult to manufacture the glow associated with pregnancy, there are steps you can take so that your skin looks luminous and radiant without a baby bump. Start by applying a pore minimizing primer such as Dr.Brant’s pores no more $45. This product is especially useful if you’re being photographed or taped as it dramatically reduces the size of your pores and makes your skin look even and refreshed. Next, apply a thin coat of foundation mixed with a few drops of highlighter or an all-in-one product such as Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer SPF20 – Illuminating $42; this is your first step to getting that all over glow. Be sure to work the product into the skin, applying only a small amount at a time. If you have any blemishes or dark areas of pigmentation, apply a concealer such as Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage $28 which has two shades that you can blend for perfect coverage. You want your natural skin texture to shine through so only apply where absolutely necessary.

To further your glowing look, apply a shimmery bronzer or cheek color such as NARS’ The Multiple in Orgasm or Lamu $39; if you have very pale skin opt for the lighter coral tone but darker skin tones can handle the more bronzed apricot shade. To get Beyonce’s shimmering smoky eye, apply a soft kohl liner on the waterline and then work with a palette such as Dior’s 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Gris Gris 034 $59. The pale blue and silver shimmering colors should be applied to the inner corner of the eye and swept halfway across the lid and under the bottom lashes. The black and gray shades can be used in the outer corners to get the warm smoky effect. Finish by curling your lashes and applying two coats of your favorite mascara. To finish off your look, apply a warm coral gloss such as Urban Decay’s Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Punch Drunk $19, a fantastic gloss pencil that allows you to build the color from a slight stain to a bold opaque without losing shine.

If you want to go all out with the matching, apply two coats of Sephora by OPI’s Nail Color in Hi Def $9.50 and finish with a glittery top coat.
