Backstage Beauty with Justin St. Clair: Donna Karan Spring 2012

Every season I look forward to the Donna Karan Collection because there is always something about it that surprises me. There is also something wonderful about the moment Donna herself arrives, delightfully open and cheerful, yet strong and masterful. This season was inspired by Haiti. Strong graphic patterns and treatments couple with a body-consciousness, which in true Karan spirit never dishonors the woman.

Charlotte Tilbury, yet again at the helm, devised a look that upheld the delineated and bold qualities within the collection. The look was lip and eyebrow almost exclusively — projecting a trend in makeup for Spring 2012 to be sure. An 80s graphic eyebrow, almost Brooke Sheilds-esque, and an intense, deep chocolate, matte lip. Tropical heat touches the complexion leaving it warm and sultry.

The overall effect is that of a powerful, beautiful woman, who is at once sexy and feminine. The great thing about this look is that you can recreate the whole thing or just choose an element you like that works for you. But the question remains, what would you do?
