Celebrity Manicurist Dawn Sterling: A tFS Exclusive

Dawn Sterling had a dream to be a celebrity and editorial manicurist. Having worked with some of the finest fashion photographers and magazines like W, V, and Italian Vanity Fair, and counting celebrities like Kirsten Dunst, Alicia Keys and Rhianna as clients, Dawn has more than achieved her dream, she has surpassed it.

I asked Dawn my 4 favorite beauty questions. Read below for her answers (and a great tip for removing polish from your skin!)

INDUSTRY BREAK:  I worked in a local nailshop for 6 years and enjoyed changing people’s self esteem — they always seem to feel better once I was finished. I saw magazines and thought that I would love to paint the nails on the covers. I had someone refer me to a member of the pop group TLC years ago. I did her nails she loved it and I just kept moving forward working with celebrities and then, eventually fashion. I love that a perfect manicured nail can tie a photo together as opposed to an un-manicured nail! Just that pop of color or nude makes a huge difference.

FAVORITE LOOK: I have so many favorites. One of my favorites is this reversed Chanel manicure with Kirsten Dunst.

FAVORITE BEAUTY SECRET: Hydrate your cuticles at night to provide strong healthy cuticles and nails. Also, when you’re at home and giving yourself a manicure and polish gets on your skin, just wipe a small amount of top coat over it, wipe, and it will easily remove. Then you won’t mess up your mani with the remover.

Rejuvacote

Rejuvacote by Duri Nail Growth System – It gets your nails in shape in less than a week.

Seche Vite

Seche Vite Base and Top Coat — It allows the polish to apply smoothly with a quick, high volume gloss.

Illamasqua Nail Varnish

Illamasqua Nail Varnish — It’s extremely high in pigment and I only need one coat when I’m shooting fashion stories. Must be quick and amazing!

Qtica Quick Dry Drops

Qtica Quick Dry Drops — They work fast without dulling down the high gloss.

Creme de la Mer

La Mer Creme — It’s a great creme. Although it’s meant for the face, it makes the hands extremely soft.
