‘No Makeup’ Makeup for Darker Skin Tones

Start with a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer. You want to let as much of your skin’s natural texture show through but still even tone and add radiance. For extra luminosity, add a drop of highlighter to your foundation and you can skip that step later on.

Groomed brows can completely transform your face. A dark brown or clear brow gel will help tame any stray hairs and keep them in place. If your brows are well shaped to begin with, this will do the job of defining them without the harsh look of a pencil. Women with darker skin can also get away with a dark liner on the tightline without looking like you’re wearing makeup. Use a very thin liner brush or a well-sharpened pencil and simply fill in the gaps between your lashes. This will give your eyes instant definition without heavy liner or mascara.

For your cheeks and lips, work with your skin tone rather than against it. Choose a cream blush that complements your undertones and apply it with a very light hand. Women with darker skin tones need to be careful when going for a subtle look because brighter colors can look forced and unnatural. If you normally contour your cheeks, do so with a very subtle color. Opt for a color only one shade darker, rather than the normal two, for a very light shadow that won’t draw extra attention. If your skin is very dark, skip the highlighter as it can look forced, otherwise apply it just to the tops of the cheeks and blend it well into the skin.

As a rule, when doing ‘no makeup’ makeup, less is more. Even if you don’t usually wear a lot of makeup, these tips can help lift your everyday look without looking obvious.
