Get a Fresh Daytime Look Like Katharine McPhee

Where: NBC Universal’s ‘2013 Winter TCA Tour’

Why we like it: Now that we’re getting into the new year, it’s time to reinvent our day-to-day beauty look. This fresh and simple style is perfect because it’s easy to maintain but a bit more special than the average face. With any look that’s this simple, the quality of the products is important. Think about it as investing in every picture that will be taken of you that month and buying a decent tinted moisturizer won’t seem like such a grand expense.

How to get it at home: Start with a light coverage base that will last you all day, such as Stila’s Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm With Broad Spectrum SPF 30, $38, which will provide a bit of coverage but also smooth the skin’s texture and color, providing an even base. Conceal any imperfections but try to leave as much of your skin’s natural tone and texture to shine through.

Line and shape your brows with Laura Mercier’s Eyebrow Pencil, $20, to add color and definition but blend out any hard lines using a brush. Tip: if you don’t have a spooly brush, try a clean old tooth brush to run through your brows. If you invest in one simple palette this month, make it Urban Decay’s new Naked Basics Palette, $27, this gives you every tool you need to create a simple neutral eye. For this look, take Faint and lightly sweep it through the crease for a bit of definition, then line close to the lashline using Crave for a hint of smoke. Finish off your eyes with Dolce & Gabbana’s Secret Eyes Lengthening Mascara, $29, which will give length and definition.

Top off your look with a bold red lip, such as Smashbox’s Love Me Be Legendary Lipstick in Love Me, $19
