Beauty Report: A New Shape at Christian Dior

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a lot of looks that are ready-to-wear, or at least attempt to be, but this is not one of them. It may look simple enough, but behind this wash of metallic from Christian Dior is a finicky process that is best left to a master. Makeup artist and constant innovator Pat McGrath used theatrical latex to get this look, which required impeccable timing and we assume a lot of practice to get right. Stage makeup aside, there are definitely lessons to be learned in this look. We love the gritty, urban edge and the pigmented wash of color, but the real story here is the shape. In Paris, we’ve seen a number of designers forgoing the standard flick shape of liner and instead moving toward a blob shape or a blended edge. This is a strong trend and we can expect to see more of it in the next few months. It might take a bit of getting used to but, who knows, maybe our cat eye days are numbered.
