Eat Pretty: 3 Things to Add to Your Diet for Beautiful Results

That “beauty comes from within” phrase takes on a whole new meaning after chatting with Jolene Hart, beauty editor turned health coach and the author of the new book Eat Pretty. She’s got a different approach to beauty, and it’s all about what you’re eating. Hart’s natural curiosity led her to cover the latest in cosmetics and treatments as a former editor at InStyle, but it was her findings that inspired her to coach people on how to eat their way to beauty and health. Here are three simple things we can learn from her to look and feel great.

Drink Up for a Youthful Glow

Looking for a new healthy morning beverage that will make you look and feel good? Well, look no further than good, old warm water and lemon. “Reset your body for a new day of eating,” says Hart. This natural form of detox helps clean you out and is packed with beauty and body benefits. The vitamin C helps with collagen production and protects against signs of aging. Plus, when you wake up, your body needs water. Squeeze the juice from half of a lemon into warm water to craft this simple concoction and start your day on the right note.

Snack Your Way to Soft, Hydrated Skin

As important as it is to stay hydrated in summer, it’s just as essential in the fall and winter (hello, dry skin). Eating water-rich foods will keep you hydrated for longer than just drinking water. Hart recommends cucumbers, celery and apples, as well as getting more good fats into your diet. Take a cue from what she eats herself: coconut oil on toast for a quick breakfast or snack.

Pack Protein to Grow Your Hair

Ready for healthy hair, skin and nails? “Explore different sources of protein,” says Hart. “Look for whole foods, not processed.” She recommends avocados, legumes or hemp seeds sprinkled on oatmeal or salad. In addition to protein, these foods are also filled with those good fats your diet needs and those good fats are also great for skin and scalp health. Check out Hart’s 5-minute healthy hair breakfast, a smoothie made with your hair and scalp in mind.
