Beauty Trendspotting: Minimal Negative Space Nail Art at NYFW

When it comes to nails on the runway, there seems to be two extremes — bare nails or all-out nail art. This season, we’re spotting a little bit of both in the most perfect marriage. Minimal nail art is now a thing thanks to the use of negative space, aka showing off a little bit of bare nail.

The grid-like use of color against bare nails at Prabal Gurung was created by Jin Soon Choi using colors that will be a part of the Prabal Gurung for Sally Hansen limited-edition collection, available Spring 2015. Another Sally Hansen-manicured look was seen at Nonoo where Sally Hansen Nail Ambassador Tracylee used the line’s Complete Salon Manicure in Let’s Snow ($7.99), and left a vertical stripe of bare nail in the center. The first time this nail art trend caught our attention, however, was backstage at Creatures of Comfort where two different neutral shades were used on both sides of a horizontal space. Our favorite part of this trend is that it can be so simple to recreate, and that it’s age-appropriate nail art for all.
