Backstage at NYFW: Groomed Ponytails and Punk Eyeliner at Diesel Black Gold

“My job as a hairdresser is to update the ponytail to make it more relevant for today’s woman,” explained Redken Creative Consultant Guido Palau. “This ponytail that I created for Diesel is very groomed and classic, but slightly futuristic.” Backstage at Diesel Black GoldPalau gave the low ponytails two textures using Satinwear 02 to blowdry hair straight and Forceful 23 for the lacquered effect up top.

“They wanted the girls to look a little masculine, very strong, kind of new wave,” described Pat McGrath regarding the makeup for this show. “The clothes are very 70s and 80s, very sexy and lots of skirts, so they wanted to contrast the face with more of [a] strong look.” McGrath used CoverGirl Ready, Set Gorgeous concealer ($7.99) and foundation ($8.99) for a fresh and natural finish, and amped up the drama on the eyes with heavy, punk-inspired eyeliner with a slightly winged tip.
