Backstage at NYFW: Debbie Harry Coolness at Narciso Rodriguez

Shiseido Artistic Director Dick Page has previously created sleek and polished looks for Narciso Rodriguez shows, but this time around, the makeup pro went for an edgy look that was inspired by Debbie Harry. The focus was kept on the eyes. “We did as little as possible to the skin and the eyes were just black,” he explained. “I started with a pencil liner, then I added cream liner and then some liquid liner before doing the mascara. Then I said, You know what? Screw it, and just kept piling it on for a chunky and homemade look.”

For nails, Deborah Lippmann used a caramel-camel-nude from her upcoming Summer 2015 collection, Terra Nova, which was finished with a matte top coat. “Narciso loved this nude camel color, and the matte finish we did made it contemporary and unexpected,”  she said.

Hair was also an unexpected departure from the norm. “What I like about today is that it’s a big departure from what I’ve done for Narciso’s shows in the past,” explained TRESemmé Lead Stylist Paul Hanlon. “The clothes are so beautiful and pure and hair has been very manicured, so this season he wanted hair to be lighter, airy and super easy.” The stylist kept hair wet from mid-length to the ends, and used TRESemmé Climate Protection Mousse ($4.79/$5.99 CDN) before dividing hair into two to three braids. Once the hair was loosely braided (“If it’s too tight, you’ll get hair that looks crimped and not wavy,” advised Hanlon), it was dried using a diffuser. Finally, Hanlon used a flatiron to add more movement to the waves before finishing the look with TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Créme ($4.75/$5.99 CDN).

We had total cool-girl envy when we saw the finished beauty look.
