Budget Beauty: Pretty Pink and Neutral Makeup How-To

STEP 1 – Start with a clean canvas

My favorite summer look is centered on clean, clear skin. After cleansing and moisturizing, I apply natural makeup, like COVERGIRL Ready, Set, Gorgeous Oil-Free Foundation ($6.94). The formula provides just enough coverage to mask imperfections, but still allows my skin to breathe thanks to its lightweight texture. This is so important during summer – there’s nothing pretty about heavy makeup that slides right off within an hour!

STEP 2 – The eyes have it

Enhance your eyes with just a touch of a shimmery, cream color, like COVERGIRL BombShell ShineShadow in Copper Fling ($6.94). This easy-blend shadow dabs on easily with a finger or brush, and leaves behind a glistening finish that brightens up the eye area without appearing overly metallic. A shade like copper, bronze or soft brown is the perfect contrast to pink; it’s eye-catching but not overwhelming, and it won’t compete with pink’s playful side.

STEP 3 – Bring the drama

Use this opportunity to amplify your eyelashes with L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara ($6.97). You can’t go wrong with this devastatingly glamorous addition to your beauty routine – it’s intense, leaving lashes movie-star chic with a quick flick of the revolutionary flexible brush. It doesn’t clump or smudge; you can rest assured that your lashes will look flawless all day long. Using this mascara is such an easy way to draw attention to the eye area without completely overwhelming your face; unlike a smoky eye that might seem “too much,” this is just right!

STEP 4 – Blush pretty

If nothing else, a pink blush will instantly brighten up your face like a charm. Revlon Highlighting Palette ($9.97) in Rose Glow features five strips of shimmery color that harmoniously add a natural flush to your cheeks. Dust it all over cheekbones for a look that’s as healthy and fresh as it is pretty.

STEP 5 – Lip lovin’

This is an incredibly minimal look overall that calls subtle attention to the lips, especially if you wear a shade like COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipstick in Romance ($5.94). The color warms up your look with its pink-toned finish that takes on a shade not unlike your own lips (but better!). The satin-like finish is lovely, too. Finish up with a slick of NIVEA A Kiss of Care & Color Sheer Pink ($4.42) for added moisture without any additional color.

STEP 5 – Channel the ultimate girly-girl

Taylor Swift is one of the most dutiful girly-girls out there – and she’s not ashamed to show it off. The songstress is routinely seen out and about in vintage-inspired swimsuits, flattering dresses and pretty heels. What better way to finish off a feminine pink theme than with a spritz of her fragrance, Taylor by Taylor Swift ($18.77)? It’s a sweet scent that marries notes of lychee and tangerine with peony and vanilla, finishing with a apricot nectar and sandalwood base. Even the bottle nods to Swift’s penchant for girlish charm, complete with a vibrant pattern and a chic crystal stopper.
