It’s no secret that I love a good blowout — and that I’m willing to do just about anything to cut my styling time. So when Color Wow Speed Dry Blow Dry Spray hit my desk, I was intrigued and excited to give it a go. But as with many beauty promises slapped all over labels, I was skeptical when I read that using it would “dramatically speed up heat styling.”
The alcohol-free formula claims to work by using a synthetic polymer to seal the cuticle and eliminate porosity, which keeps moisture and color locked inside. The protective barrier also prevents hair from becoming dry and brittle, which in turn speeds up the drying process. The product is also meant to strengthen hair with keratin proteins and silk amino acids.
After gently towel-drying my hair post-shower, I sprayed Speed Dry all over my hair — I even flipped it over to make sure I got the back of my hair. My logic behind this method was that I probably needed a substantial amount spread out evenly in my hair for it to work its magic. To see what kind of results I would achieve, I didn’t add any other products to my hair. I powered up my dryer and used a flat paddle brush like I normally do to get a natural look.
Five minutes into drying my hair, I was already noticing that the process was speeding up (insert praying emoji sign here). I was really excited at minute 10 (yes, I used a timer because I’m a tad OCD) when my hair was completely dry — I combed through it with my fingers to smooth it out and it even had extra shine to it. My usual drying time is roughly between 12 and 15 minutes, so it didn’t necessarily speed up my results dramatically, but if using this product means I’ll have a consistent drying time of 10 minutes, then I’ll take it. A few extra minutes to me means that I can apply my makeup at home instead of in the back of a cab or it could be the difference between catching a subway or waiting 15 minutes until the next one. So right now, I’m sold.
