5 Ways to Hydrate Dry Winter Skin

Low humidity levels mixed with face-numbing winds aren’t ideal conditions for keeping a radiant and dewy complexion. The winter weather tends to steal moisture away from our skin, which can lead to dryness, itchiness and flakiness. And no one wants anything to do with that. From the healing benefits of oils and a DIY mask to the moisturizer tip you must know about, here are five ways to hydrate dry winter skin.

  1. Try Oils. They sound scary, especially if your skin is prone to acne, but many oils are actually safe to use on most skin types. And because they are so concentrated with healing and hydrating properties, they sink into the skin immediately and get to work.
  2. Use a Gentle Cleanser. The great thing about each season is that we get to change up our beauty routines. In winter, ease up on the exfoliators and reach for a gentle cleanser that is made with ceramides and hyaluronic acid for ultimate hydration.
  3. Apply Moisturizer ASAP. Remember, your skin is craving moisture, so the more you give it the better. And applying moisturizer to damp skin within a couple minutes of stepping out of the shower helps seal in the dampness and lock in moisture.
  4. Invest in a Humidifier. You splurge on face creams and fancy lotions, so why not spend a little cash on a quality humidifier? Your heater dries out the air, so the added vapor from the humidifier will ensure skin is hydrated and that flaky, dry skin is gone for good.
  5. Use a DIY Mask. A homemade hydrating face mask can provide the extra moisture needed during the winter months. Look for masks with ingredients like avocado, oils and honey for the best results.
