MAC’s Latest Collection Is High-Impact, 80s-Inspired Makeup at Its Best

This spring, bold, 80s-inspired beauty looks are the way to go. The Spring 2017 runways were full of colorful nods to the decade of checkers and spandex. Bright, sky blue lips stole the show at Thom Browne. Orange, green and lavender-lidded models hit the catwalk at Jeremy Scott. Adam Selman’s girls eschewed glossy highlighter in favor of punkish, magenta-toned blush.

And the makeup experts at MAC Cosmetics took note. The beauty giant’s new Work It Out capsule collection combines high-performance color with longwear formulas inspired by “the art of fitness.” That’s not to say the Technicolor mascaras and mega-watt glosses should be worn to the gym. (That’s what Sweat Cosmetics’ stuff is for.) Work It Out borrows from athletic culture the same way the athleisure movement does — in a strictly aesthetic sense. It co-opts the bright, kitschy vibe of a Jane Fonda workout video but leaves the cardio element behind.

The 39-piece range offers up a ton of fun, 80s-inspired statement makeup. Star products include the aforementioned neon-bright mascaras, which come in visually arresting shades like “Hold For 10” (a bright cobalt blue) and “Abs Of Steel” (a fuchsia pink). Also included in the collection are pots of gel-like gloss, dual-ended face sticks, striking Chromagraphic eye pencils and mini Prep + Prime Fix sprays in lavender, coconut or rose.

Work It Out will be available at MAC locations and the brand’s e-commerce site from March 2 through April 13. In the meantime, click through the slideshow below to see every item (along with pricing info).
