Exaggerated Negative-Space Eyeliner Will Make Your Eyes Pop in 2018

We’re always on the lookout for new ways to wear eyeliner and this season offers plenty of inspiring techniques that stand out from the crowd. The recent runways bucked tradition by moving eyeliner away from the eyes in a variety of exaggerated geometric silhouettes that defined the eye in a whole new way.

To recreate the look, it’s up to you to figure out just how big of a statement you want to make. Do you want to trace the entire perimeter of your eyes for an Illuminati-inspired Eye of Providence look as seen on the Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano Spring 2018 runways? Or, perhaps, you only want to draw the inner and outer corners in a slender extended arrow per the L’Oréal Paris show.

This look is all about creating negative space. After determining the outlines of the eye makeup, resist the urge to fill it in with eyeshadow and let lids breathe for a change. Flip through the runway images above and get inspired to color outside the lines a bit this season.
