Lunchtime Beauty: Pamper Yourself in Under an Hour

You’re in need of some primping, but your job is getting in the way (you know, that thing gives you the cash for the primping?) Luckily, you can squeeze in a few pampering sessions with these quick lunchtime beauty treatments and still have time left over to grab a coffee!

Overgrown eyebrows are a surefire way to look unkempt. It’s one of life’s annoying little tasks, so don’t waste precious time on the weekend, get it out of the way during lunch!

The important thing is to make sure you have an appointment – and that your salon isn’t that far. You should be in and out in about 15 minutes flat. If you’re going for an all-over shaping, allot yourself more time.

And if you’re nervous about post-waxing redness, take a tip from us and pop two Advil thirty minutes before your appointment.

Facial

This may seem a little more risky, and truth be told, it is. However, today there are plenty of express facials that will get the job done, just without all the frills. Be sure to have an appointment for this one, and again, the closer, the better. An express facial is usually about a half an hour, so if you have an hour break, make sure the furthest distance you need to travel is 15 minutes.

The good thing about express facials is they’re cheaper than the hand-massaging, fuzzy-robe-and-slippers kind, and you don’t have to disrobe. These quickie facials are different everywhere you go. Some involve aromatherapy, others involve masks, some even involve extractions. It’s perfect if you’re going out that night – just be prepared to head back to work shiny and makeup free.

Manicure

Of course you can get a manicure on your lunch break, but you might want to hold off on that pedicure. Not only do pedicures take longer, but unless it’s summer, you can’t slip your shoes back on. (And, really, who wants to go back to the office in paper flip-flops?)  If you live in a city like Manhattan, it might be hard to get an appointment that is guaranteed to start on time; nail salons usually operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. The good thing about being in a city, though, is that nail salons are practically on every block. If you can’t get into one place, surely there’s another one around the corner.

If you don’t live in a city, it might be easier to schedule an appointment. Think of which nail color you want in advance, and skip acrylics, designs, or anything else that will eat up time.

Back massage

We know you’re stiff from sitting in that cubicle all day. Why not de-stress with a quick shoulder rub? Most nail salons offer mini back rubs where you don’t have to get undressed – you can even pick the length of your massage. Other places to get a quick rub-down are grocery stores like Whole Foods, and other natural food marts. Usually, they have someone with a chair, ready to ease your aching back. Some massage parlors even offer half-hour massages, but keep in mind, this will require de-robing, and dealing with messy oils.
