How to Apply False Lashes

Ok, ladies, let’s discuss falsies. No, we’re not talking about expanding bra sizes to hefty double Ds, we’re talking lashes. False eyelashes, when applied correctly, can transform a look by really making your eyes pop. Sure, you get those 5-inch, save-it-for-Halloween type lashes, but the ones we’re talking about are subtle and add the most incredible, natural-looking volume to your peepers. However, far too many of us wonder: how do you put the darn things on?

We decided to tackle this dilemma, once and for all. Check out our steps on how to apply false lashes, so you don’t have to deal with glue in your eye or lashes that look more like whiskers along your temples ever again.

  1. Apply all your eye makeup, except for mascara, and curl your lashes. Note: do not trim the lashes shorter before you apply them. Snipping them will make them look short and blunt and frankly, a lot faker than you’d like them too. If you’re not sure if the lashes you’re buying are the right length for you, ask a sales assistant to help you.
  2. Wipe a small streak of the glue that comes with the lashes on the back of your hand. Pick up the strip as close to the base as possible with tweezers, not at the tip of the lashes (this could cause them to bend) and run the base of the eyelash along the glue, making sure it’s not too goopy. Let it dry for about ten seconds, so the glue gets tacky.
  3. Tilt your chin upwards facing a mirror and position the lash strip in the center of your eye, as close to the lash line as possible. As soon as the glue sticks, push down on the lashes on the inner and outer corners of your eye, and hold them there for 30 seconds.
  4. Let the lashes dry for about five minutes and then apply liquid eyeliner over the base of the lash strip, just to hide any excess glue. If you feel like the lashes need to blend better with your natural lashes you can apply a thin layer of mascara. But be warned: mascara can clump the lashes together, so if you insist of using some, be sure it’s not a thickening mascara.
