Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2011 Backstage Beauty

Ouidad, also known as the “Queen of Curl” was responsible for the hair at this season’s Rebecca Minkoff show. The affable curl aficionado told me that the look she created was all about the “ease of the morning after a fabulous night.” She added that she felt particularly stimulated the day of the show because she herself had a fabulous night the eve before.

The soft curls Ouidad created were fitting given that Minkoff is known to most as the creator of the Morning After bag, and in keeping with the laid-back look Minkoff tends to go for, Ouidad curled the models’ hair (1/4 inch barrel curlers for those with long hair and 1 inch barrel curlers for those with short hair). Then after taking the curlers out, the stylists’ fingers were run through the models’ hair for that straight-out-of-bed look.

Ouidad Styling Mist, PlayCurl Volumizing Foam, and Shine Glaze Serum were the key products applied to the hair for the ultimate effortlessly sexy tousled look.

As for makeup, Stila pro artist for Beauty.com, Sarah Lucero, worked on the glossy look. Lucero said that the key to being on-trend with makeup this season is to ditch the highlighter and shimmer and focus on an all-over glossy finish via the use of a tinted moisturizer. That point of view clearly translated into the look she created for Minkoff’s show, so much so, in fact, that Lucero exclaimed, “I feel like I took what I have in my makeup bag and just put it on the girls!”

The result was a “modern take on the designer’s vintage inspired collection,” according to the Stila artist. She used Stila’s Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer on the models’ skin, Lip Glaze in Apricot on their lips, Mascara, Kajal Eye Liner in Topaz on the waterline, Chinois Espresso Eye Shado, and a Smudge Stick in Stingray on the eyes. For cheeks, Covertible Color in Gerbera was applied.
