Prabal Gurung Fall 2012 Runway Review

Sculpted strapless dresses, sheer paneled cocktail numbers, fur embellished coats, a cropped cape jacket, beaded sweaters, and a fantastic origami dress with a high-shine metallic neoprene beetle-like panel were some of the collection’s dark-colored standouts. Metallic also made its way onto the runway via a striking blue that made for gorgeous slender trousers and a variety of print cocktail looks. The lighter toned looks were a mix of white and gold lamé with red carpet worthy feather accents, sequins, and cutouts.

Particularly remarkable were the designer’s floor sweeping gowns (though at times, the use of sheer delicate fabrics were reminiscent of recent Ricardo Tisci-designed Givenchy), some of which will surely end up on stars (ahem, Zoe Saldana who was seated front row) in the coming months.

One of the designer’s best collections to date, it was statement making, yet highly wearable.
