Our suspicions have been confirmed with the unveiling of Louis Vuitton’s latest advertising campaign: Bruce Weber is officially out (although it should’ve gone without even saying). Ever since Nicolas Ghesquière took over the reins of the iconic French fashion house in 2013, Weber has been Ghesquière’s go-to campaign photographer (much to the dismay of our forums members) for his mainline collections, but in light of the sexual misconduct allegations, he is replaced by Collier Schorr for Fall 2018. A clean slate, Ghesquière cast some newbie models for the occasion too, with Clémentine Balcaen (below) and Mariam de Vinzelle (after the jump) taking center stage. Styled by Marie-Amelié Sauve, the girls were photographed against pastel-colored backdrops, staring vacantly off-set.
Despite the switch-up, our forum members weren’t here for it. “If you’re gonna change the photographer, at least change for the good and give us something better. Geez. This is so basic. It’s like a lookbook shot. They managed to make Clémentine look pedestrian,” slammed guimon the moment the campaign dropped.
“I don’t like it. It looks like an editorial for Another Magazine or a campaign for one of those budget clothing stores. I’m surprised that he hasn’t chosen to work with the some of the amazing photographers from his Balenciaga days. I&V or Sims would have elevated this,” added GivenchyHomme.
Nina Garcia continues to overhaul US ELLE and following a beautiful Kendall Jenner cover last month, the editor-in-chief wastes no time getting the big names to front the magazine by securing Nicki Minaj for the July 2018 issue. “Reclaiming her throne” in the music industry and on the cover of ELLE, Minaj was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld in his Paris-based studio. In the vibrant newsstand cover image (below), Nicki wears a colorful embellished Versace number and is even joined by The Kaiser himself throughout the accompanying cover story.

Not only has Minaj received Lagerfeld’s endorsement, but she also gets the seal of approval from (the majority of) our forum members this month. “Wow, striking! This will definitely draw attention at the newsstands. The lightly softened look and faint smile looks refreshing. Don’t listen to her music, but one can’t deny she’s rather beautiful and ELLE did her justice here!” exclaimed Benn98.
“This really works, what a truly refreshing cover,” Miss Dalloway said.
“Wow, I was expecting something really bad but Karl surprised me with this one. I like it!” Scotty added.
What’s happening over at American Vogue HQ? After a slew of disastrous covers earlier this year, we’re suddenly getting a wave of gorgeous covers — and we’re certainly not complaining. After a sun-soaked Rihanna shoot last month, Vogue follows up with a tropical cover for July 2018 featuring modeling royalty Gisele Bündchen, after an eight-year hiatus on the cover of the American fashion bible. Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, Gisele was captured on location in Tulum, Mexico, with stylist Tonne Goodman selecting a Ralph Lauren dress to complement the lush surroundings.

Our forum members couldn’t believe their eyes. “What a surprise. She has such great energy and good body language. Well, she is a real supermodel! Still, it feels surreal to have a solo supermodel on the cover of US Vogue nowadays,” commented TaylorBinque.
“I can’t believe my eyes! Gisele on the cover of American Vogue! A real supermodel! This is too good. Love the background. This is perfect,” apple approved.
Sharing the same enthusiasm was guimon: “Couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw it. Too good to be true. This is perfect. So happy!”
Alberta Ferretti likes to keep us guessing when it comes to its advertising campaigns, never settling for a tried and tested formula. The Italian fashion label brought on photographer Steven Meisel for the Spring 2017 campaign, Tim Walker for Fall 2017 and Mario Sorrenti for Spring 2018. This season, it’s David Sims capturing the brand’s Fall 2018 campaign in his London studio with Vogue Paris fashion director Aleksandra Woroniecka on styling duties (replacing Carine Roitfeld). Gone is last season’s cast too, in favor of models Edie Campbell and Liya Kebede, starring in the dark and moody series of images.
Members of our forums were quick to sound off on the campaign. “Not surprised it looks so Vogue Paris since Aleksandra Woroniecka is fashion director at VP! I guess she brings some easiness and a sense of effortless French style to the brand. I like it,” approved elle_gb.
ELLE Australia probably doesn’t get the recognition it deserves on our forums, but with just the right cover star, you’ll have our undivided attention. The last cover to take our fancy was back in 2016 featuring Aussie supermodel Gemma Ward and now, two years later, a cover with Emily Ratajkowski is getting just as much buzz. American Marie Claire‘s current cover girl takes to Australian ELLE‘s June/July 2018 issue, starring on two monochromatic covers shot by Kai Z Feng. The model/actress and Kérastase brand ambassador is dressed in head-to-toe Saint Laurent (styled by Rachel Wayman), leaving our forum members to choose their favorite cover image.
The focus wasn’t on what Emily was wearing, however. “Who’s in charge of choosing ELLE Australia’s cover stars? Most Aussie mags have to choose wisely because they can’t always afford to have an original cover every month — and this is what they chose? Emily seems like a nice person but she also feels a bit irrelevant, especially to readers here,” critiqued forum member magsaddict.
“I don’t get how she manages to appear on the front of fashion magazines, but I presume it involves having a canny PR team and strategically buying a lot of the coverage she gets online, keeping people convinced through social media counts and well-placed new stories that she’s a celebrity,” tigerrouge added.
There’s nothing our forums hate more than when a cover that has all the right elements falls completely flat, and Vogue Germany’s Othilia Simon cover last month was a prime example. Picking up the pieces for July 2018, the magazine delivers not one, but three terrific covers shot by Luigi & Iango (who have basically photographed the entire issue). Cover girls Mayowa Nicholas, Vittoria Ceretti and Fran Summers work their magic, but as usual with multi-covers, one girl stood out from the rest.
Forum members couldn’t stop noticing one cover in particular. “Love seeing Mayowa booking big jobs, she always delivers. All three covers are great!” said boleyns.
“Beyond words, all 3 are stunning. Incredible happy for Mayowa with her first Vogue, finally,” TeeVanity added.
