Nicole Kidman Is Barely Recognizable on Marie Claire’s October Cover

After undergoing a makeover, Marie Claire is back on our radar with several gorgeous covers in recent months featuring the likes of Zendaya, Amy Adams and Emily Ratajkowski. In a bold effort to overhaul its image, the American fashion glossy is pulling out all the stops, landing Nicole Kidman as its cover star for October 2018. We’ve called out our fair share of Photoshop blunders over the years, but Marie Claire‘s latest takes the cake. Photographed by Thomas Whiteside, styled by Joseph Errico and drowning in an overload of red (from Nicole’s hair to the studio backdrop), the Aussie actress is barely recognizable in her latest cover appearance.

Our forum members were speechless — almost. “Who’s that?” asked KissMiss the minute the cover came to light.

“That’s like someone paying a camgirl to be Nicole Kidman,” snarked tigerrouge.

“I literally busted out laughing at first look. That… is… hysterical…,” said dfl-001.

Anna Ewers Lands Her Fifth Cover of Vogue Germany

Anna Ewers and Vogue Germany go together like Kate Moss and British Vogue. It’s a relationship that keeps on blossoming and the German native, who already has four cover appearances for the magazine under her belt, adds a fifth for October 2018. After a rather dull and uneventful offering for September, we were expecting some glitz and glam this month; instead, we get yet another tepid gray backdrop and not much else. Even Ewers looks bored with the cover as she sits on a stool wearing Ralph Lauren for photographer Giampaolo Sgura.

Members of our forums were divided on the cover. “Her again?! The casual styling isn’t doing her much favors, too basic,” remarked Nymphaea the moment the cover dropped.

“Doesn’t even look like a cover! Can’t believe [stylist Christiane Arp] would run with this. The styling is bad as can be expected from a Vogue Germany cover, but the art direction and image? It looks like an outtake from The Edit’s weekly features,” said Benn98.

“So it’s official? Magazines aren’t even trying anymore, this cover ain’t worth the paper it’s printed on!” slammed Miss Dalloway.

Zoe Kravitz Goes Unretouched on the October Cover of Harper’s Bazaar

After last month’s bizarre September cover, Harper’s Bazaar has a whole lot of making up to do and this month’s choice of cover subject is a great way to start. The lovely Zoe Kravitz makes her Bazaar debut on the October 2018 issue, photographed by Camilla Akrans and styled by Patrick Mackie. No stranger to fashion magazines, having already covered the likes of Allure, InStyle, British Vogue and US ELLE, the actress and Saint Laurent brand ambassador goes completely unretouched throughout the cover shoot.

Despite Bazaar’s attempts at something different, our forums weren’t here for the outcome. “I would probably like this if it was a little more zoomed out, but I think her expression is a little too squinty here — she’s very beautiful regardless and it’s good they’re going for a new cover star,” wrote 333101.

“Refreshing choice for them, but wow, they couldn’t zoom the shot out more? She’s got such defined cheekbones and jawlines, yet it’s nearly invisible here. Don’t get me started on the hair. Complete miss for me, I’m afraid,” Benn98 said.

“At least it’s better than September,” added jorgepalomo.

90-Year-Old Agnès Varda Stars on the Cover of Interview Magazine’s Relaunch Issue

Interview magazine is no longer. Scratch that. The legendary publication has decided not to shut down as reported back in May and the newly unveiled relaunch issue is already available on newsstands now. To mark the occasion, the new team welcomes Agnès Varda — Andy Warhol’s very first cover star for the inaugural issue of the magazine back in 1969 — onto the retro September 2018 cover. Now 49 years later, the 90-year-old film director was photographed by Collier Schorr and styled by Mel Ottenberg wearing a bold Dries van Noten number.

Unfortunately, our forum members weren’t pining for the magazine’s comeback. “Stinks to high heaven! As for the actual cover, looks very vintage. Nondescript, if you ask me. And I’m guessing the choice to give the cover to Agnès over Hari [Nef] was a strategic one. Who would pester Agnès, who probably doesn’t even know about the entire affair, about her involvement with this mess?” voiced Benn98.

“I love Agnès. She’s a great artist and living legend. She’s better than this Frankenstein magazine and Collier Schorr. I’m still not buying it, and I doubt many others will either,” mepps added.

“Sometimes it is better to stop everything and let people have good memories… I was done with Interview the moment Fabien [Baron], Karl [Templer] and Ludivine [Poiblanc] left it,” wrote GivenchyAddict.

Cate Blanchett Makes a Glamorous Return to the Cover of British Harper’s Bazaar

If you’re an avid British Harper’s Bazaar reader like we are, you should automatically know what to expect from the cover each month. On occasion, the magazine ditches its idyllic countryside lifestyle aesthetic — but not this month. The publication welcomes back an old favorite for October 2018, making Cate Blanchett its cover star for the umpteenth time (our forum members sounded the “overexposure alert” the last time she graced British Bazaar). The Aussie actress naturally makes a stunning return, photographed outdoors by Will Davidson and styled by Charlie Harrington. Cate wears red velvet Gucci in the glamorous newsstand cover (below) and works a sequined Giorgio Armani suit in the subscribers cover (after the jump).

There was one thing holding our forum members back from giving the covers their full approval. “Definitely not the right makeup for this shot (it’s far too light), but I love it! Such a perfect autumn shot. The ruched velvet looks lovely, mad about the backdrop, just wish Cate could’ve cracked a smile at least. More of Will Davidson please!” said Benn98 the moment the cover dropped.

“Oh, yes! Will Davidson’s aesthetic is suited perfectly to British Harper’s Bazaar and even though the magazine insists on using the same old concept, Davidson’s work has felt like a breath of fresh air over the past two months. The newsstand cover is beautiful, love the red and find the shot overall to be just perfect for October,” said vogue28.
