Ever wonder what Canadians are searching for on Google? Apparently, not all of us are focused solely on dog videos and hair how-tos. (Guilty!) According to Google’s 14th Annual Year in Search study, we were interested in topics as varied as ALS, Ebola, Frozen and shepherd’s pie recipes. But when it comes to fashion, our interests were somewhat more focused.
The information is compiled on an annual basis by analyzing the “aggregation of trillions of search queries over the year,” says Google Canada trends expert Aaron Brindle. Accordingly, comfort was important to Canadian fashion lovers, as leggings topped the list of searches and sweatpants made it to the number seven spot. It was the year of abbreviated fashions with crop tops, bob haircuts and booties making the list as well as more creative statements like floral and plaid patterns in addition to braids. (more…)
That New Year’s resolution you made to stop shopping so much is about to be ruined thanks to Charlotte Olympia. Forget what Susan Miller has to say, the only horoscope-related thing you need to be paying any attention to are these new additions to Charlotte Olympia’s Cosmic collection.
The celebrated British accessories label is putting out a pair of flats and a matching box clutch decorated with a symbol of an intertwined sun, moon and stars come the new year. It’s the perfect addition to the Cosmic range, which boasts flats and pumps decorated with each sign of the zodiac.
The new pieces will go on sale January 1 with the flats going for $695 and the clutch for $995.
Just think of this as a luxurious little way to start 2015.
The world clearly has not had enough of seeing Sarah Jessica Parker puttering around the city as a single woman, so we’re going to have yet another opportunity to watch the actress navigate a crappy love life. SJP is reportedly working on a new show with HBO called Divorce, which is about (surprise!) divorce.
The show will likely take place in New York City and will be in bite-size, half-hour episodes — for those of you who can only take a single SJP in small doses since you’re still recovering from a decade-long Sex and the City overload.
We’re expecting this series to be very stylish because, quite frankly, you can’t bring SJP back to HBO and have her rocking Fashion Bug throwaways from 2002. The show’s premiere date is still a secret, but we’ll definitely be on the lookout.

Jenna Lyons has become something of a poster girl for J.Crew, which is understandable since the designer seems so darn cool. Her quirky personal style has transformed her into something of a star herself — and rumor has it the executives at J.Crew aren’t too pleased about it.
The retailer is reportedly going through some serious financial woes, losing $607.8 million in net income this year and is scrambling to shape up. According to Page Six, the label has allegedly turned on Lyons, asking her to reel it in and remember that she’s a designer, not a starlet. Sources say that J.Crew feels that Lyons’ exploits with the rich and famous — appearances on HBO’s Girls, her trip to New Orleans for Solange Knowles’ wedding and her girl talk session with the Duchess of Cambridge — are interfering with her work and she needs to dedicate more time to helping dig the company out of this hole, rather than cruising around with her famous pals.
J.Crew denies giving Lyons any such instruction and we hope the company didn’t because who is a better ambassador for J.Crew than the designer? Also, hanging around with some of pop culture’s most influential people couldn’t possibly hurt the brand so much that Lyons would have to fall back. Any woman that looks better than Beyoncé as a guest at one of the most stylish weddings of the year is clearly doing something right in her life.
You keep doing you, Jenna.

In this economy, it sometimes seems like your college degree would be better used as kindling for a trash can fire. That is, unless you are applying for a job at Yahoo, as CEO Marissa Mayer will only hire people who have degrees. This strict company policy is to blame for the website’s marked lack of Gwyneth Paltrow’s precious pearls of wisdom on its food site. The New York Times did a profile on Mayer which noted that Paltrow’s name was brought up when the site was trying to select a contributing editor for Yahoo Food.
Apparently, the fact that Paltrow didn’t graduate college made Mayer LOL when she was suggested for the editor position. “Even though the actress Gwyneth Paltrow had created a best-selling cookbook and popular lifestyle blog, Mayer, who habitually asked deputies where they attended college, balked at hiring her as a contributing editor for Yahoo Food. According to one executive, Mayer disapproved of the fact that Paltrow did not graduate college.”
But don’t hate on Paltrow – she was much too busy winning Oscars and profiting off her strong connections in show business to be bothered with graduating. And something tells us she wouldn’t be too broken up about not getting the job.
