This week, tFS forum members watched, weighed in and speculated as Emmanuelle Alt settled into her new role at French Vogue, Carine Roitfeld met with Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquiere, Tom Ford’s handsome face landed the cover of Interview, and Doutzen Kroes and Penelope Cruz both welcomed new additions to their families.
Carine Roitfeld and Nicolas Ghesquiere Toast to New Beginnings?
Carine Roitfeld has been conspicuously absent from the couture shows, now that she is no longer the Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue, but news that she was spotted at L’Hotel last week having drinks with Nicolas Ghesquiere, the Creative Director of Balenciaga, has raised a few eyebrows. Ghesquiere and Balenciaga famously banned the French Vogue team from attending their runway show in March 2010 and the brand also ceased to advertise in the publication at that time.
Could this be the start of something new between Roitfeld and Balenciaga? BetteT wondered what was up with the meeting: “Just making up and letting bygones be bygones? Or do you think that maybe there’s something else in the works? After all, she needs a job…” Perhaps this is one of the personal projects that Roitfeld was hoping to focus on now that her tenure at French Vogue has come to an end? In the past, she was a consultant and muse to Tom Ford at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent – could a similar arrangement with Balenciaga now be in the works?
tFS Praises Tom Ford… For His Good Looks
The fashion world has anxiously been awaiting Tom Ford’s return to womenswear since he parted ways with Gucci in 2004, but when it comes to his February 2011 Interview cover, all tFS posters seem to care about is Ford’s pretty face. “You can’t go wrong with Tom Ford, he looks disturbingly good,” said greyeyes. “Is it just me or has he done this pose [a thousand times before]?” asked Ives927, offering a slight critique. “Nonetheless, such a gorgeous man,” he added.
Emmanuelle Alt Has tFS Buzzing
Emmanuelle Alt has been a hot topic of conversation in the forums even before her promotion to Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue. Earlier this week, posters were speculating as to who would grace the cover of Alt’s first issue at the helm.
“I would be safe and go for Daria [Werbowy],” guessed Gabriel29. Chanelcouture09 was putting his money on Raquel Zimmerman, but both were proven wrong when it was revealed that Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin were photographing Gisele Bundchen in St. Bart’s for the cover of the April 2011 issue.
As Alt made her first appearances at the couture shows this week, hawk-eyed tFS members were analyzing every outfit and watching out for signs that she may have changed since stepping into her new role. The Balmain coat she was spotted in outside of the Dior couture show met with a chorus of approval. “She looks fab as usual and [I] love that coat,” mused Melly5525. “That [is the Balmain coat] she was wearing last year during Paris Fashion Week in March,” observed Minimoon27. She still appears to be the same Emmanuelle; it doesn’t seem as though she’ll morph into Carine Roitfeld any time soon – despite the fact that she’s now occupying her old office.
Congratulations to New Moms Doutzen Kroes and Penelope Cruz!
Following in the footsteps of fellow (current and former) Victoria’s Secret models Alessandra Ambrosio, Gisele Bundchen, Adriana Lima, and Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes has become a mother. Only days before her own birthday this week, the Dutch beauty and her husband, Sunnery James, welcomed Phyllon Gorré, a healthy eight-pound baby boy. Excited tFS members flooded Doutzen’s thread with heartfelt congratulations.
Though reports are just now trickling out, it seems that actress Penelope Cruz has given birth to a baby boy this week as well! This is Cruz’s first child with husband Javier Bardem, who just received his third Oscar nomination for his role in Biutiful. Congratulations to the happy – and notoriously private – couple for all of the blessings they received this week.
