Editors’ Street Style: Fall 2011 Fashion Week (Forum Buzz)

Fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris are all about clothes, both on the runways and off. With the prevalence of street style bloggers these days, magazine editors and other attendees of the shows are caught on camera in attention-grabbing, sometimes inspiring and often envy-inducing looks and styles that rival those seen on the catwalks. Read on for some of the “fashion month” street style highlights thus far, as seen on some of the Fashion Spot forum’s favorite fashion personalities.

Anna Dello Russo, Fashion Director at Large and Creative Consultant for Vogue Nippon, is always one to watch during fashion week. Her loud, often quirky and attention-grabbing outfits make her hard to miss. During New York Fashion Week, Dello Russo donned a metallic gold leather fringed Moschino jacket that she paired with thigh high patent leather boots. “I’m not normally a fan of fringe,” said wild roses, “but she rocks that fringy gold dress. So amazing and eye-catching—especially in motion.”

Also in New York, Dello Russo wore a red and white brocade coat with fur trim by Roberto Cavalli and black leather high-heeled boots. The look was a big hit in the forums. “I’m waxing obsessive over this Cavalli coat!” exclaimed mikeijames. Label Basher agreed, stating: “You can always rely on Anna to choose a fantastic coat.”

Anna Dello Russo’s one woman fashion show continued in Milan where she stepped out in a clownish blazer from Balenciaga’s Fall 2007 collection that she wore with red leggings and shoes from Prada’s recent Spring 2011 collection. “That’s quite horrible and not very flattering,” said isa.b.elle. of the outfit. Not Plain Jane was a bit gentler in her criticism: “Not looking her best there… she’s branching out, which is fine, but the leggings and shoes just don’t seem like ‘her.’” The response to Dello Russo’s head-to-toe Miu Miu outfit was more positive. Label Basher was “loving the Miu Miu,” and declared that Dello Russo “looks fantastic in yellow.”

Taylor Tomasi Hill, Style and Accessories Directory at Marie Claire, has emerged as a street style star in the forums. “I’m so obsessed with this woman,” confessed lmelanie. Tomasi Hill accessorized nearly every outfit in New York with a bright blue Celine clutch that added a nice punch of color to her wardrobe. At left, Tomasi Hill wore a Burberry sweater over a Sportmax collared shirt with a vintage Fenton leather skirt and over-the-knee suede boots. The weather was warm enough for her to shrug off her black Burberry shearling jacket. “That leather skirt and grey sweater and little white shirt is such a lovely outfit… every last little detail!” gushed Cosette

On another day in New York, Tomasi Hill was once again wearing a Burberry jacket (and the ever-present Celine clutch) with a Christopher Kane skirt and Isabel Marant shoes. Not Plain Jane would love to own both of Tomasi Hill’s Burberry jackets, but she also revealed that she is “very seriously considering the move from brunette to red hair… has anyone ever done so much for red hair?” she asked. The rest of Tomasi Hill’s admirers are loving her hair as well. “Is it me or is her hair even more stunning this season?” asked Wolkfolk. No, Wolkfolk, it’s definitely not just you…

Emmanuelle Alt, the new Editor-in-Chief of French Vogue, has been getting attention and admiration for her consistently cool street style for a while now. At the Theyskens’ Theory show in New York she was dressed to impress in an Isabel Marant Fall 2009 fur jacket with a grey sweater and skinny leather pants. Ciao!Manhattan liked the “sweater and fur combo,” and mistinguett loved that Alt’s coat was from a 2009 collection. “I love seeing people re-wear their favorite pieces,” she wrote. “Fashion doesn’t need to always be about endless consumption—seeing how people re-style their favorite items is newsworthy and inspirational too!”

In Milan, Alt was spotted wearing a beautiful textured blazer from Givenchy’s Spring 2011 collection with a simple black shirt, black skinny jeans and fold over black suede ankle boots. “For me that jacket was such a surprising choice but it suits her style perfectly and it’s a nice refreshing [change] from the endless Balmain and Marant we’ve been seeing,” said Chanelcouture09.

Joanna Hillman, Senior Fashion Market Editor at Harper’s Bazaar, is another emerging street style star. In New York, her layered jackets, Derek Lam bag and flared jeans got some forum members to rethink the contents of their closets. “She looks soo good!!!” wrote OnlyChicAllowed. “Now I NEED wide leg jeans!” Meg commented that she “loved the proportions [Hillman] was working.”

Also during New York Fashion Week, Hillman was photographed wearing an army green Gryphon jacket, Derek Lam sweater, Marc Jacobs skirt, Mulberry leopard print bag, boots from the Gap and her signature Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses and red lipstick. Gossiping complimented the mix of high-low style, insisting that “her shoes are always amazing.” Meg was also a fan of the look. “Love that outfit,” she said. “She’s working such an on-trend length, and heavy fabrics, but her shoes and earrings feel very young and fresh.”

With the rest of Milan and all of Paris still ahead of us, there is sure to be a lot more outstanding fashion insider street style on the way.
