Alexander McQueen once again tapped photographer David Sims for their ad campaign and continued with a variation on the intergalactic vibe they displayed in Fall 2011. Where the Fall campaign with Raquel Zimmermann was dark and moody, the new Spring 2012 campaign featuring Zuzanna Bijoch has a decidedly lighter tone. Some forum members love the look of the campaign, while others remain lukewarm.
Inspiration posted, “It's very artistic, Zuzanna looks amazing here! Everything works perfect—styling, lighting. Another epic McQueen ad!!”
TianSoFine wrote, “I love both the concept and the execution. I think Zuzanna suits this perfectly and the dresses look beautiful.”
Psylocke wrote, “The second shot is simply beautiful. Everything works there—the styling, the colors, Zuzanna's facial expression. Really stunning. Can't say the same about the other two shots. The third one is just awful. Looks like some cheap editorial by some spiritual fanatic that you would find on Tumblr. The first shot is too reminiscent of last season's campaign (which I didn't like that much either),” she added.
HeatherAnne expressed a similar opinion: “It doesn't do anything for me, she looks like a stuffed bird in the second picture, the religious overtones in the first picture don't make sense to me. The third one, I do like. But together, as a whole concept, MEH.”
No one seems to outright hate the campaign, but we’re definitely feeling the absence of the dearly departed Alexander McQueen himself. You can’t help but wonder where the brand would be at this moment if he were still with us.
