I-D has rolled out multiple covers once again for their Spring 2012 “Royalty Issue”, displaying different takes on fashion royalty by capturing subjects as diverse as Karl Lagerfeld, Guinevere Van Seenus, Hahn-Bin, Sui He, Shalom Harlow, Carolyn Murphy, Vivienne Westwood, Georgia Jagger, and Daphne Groeneveld. Lagerfeld, the undisputed King of Fashion, of course, photographed himself. Juergen Teller photographed Westwood, Walter Pfeiffer photographed Jagger, and Richard Bush shot Groeneveld, while photography duo Daniele + Iango captured the five striking covers of the remaining women that are undoubtedly the best of the bunch.

YoninahAliza posted, “I love Karl's cover because it's so cheeky. And the model covers all look pretty great too… i-D has been on the mark these last few issues.”
Ives927 didn’t like that all of the covers didn’t conform to a uniform theme (other than the tenuous title of ‘Royal Issue’). “Here we go again,” he wrote. “A beep load of unrelated covers. So unnecessary. At least have the same damn theme,” he complained.

Though the theme isn’t executed in the same way on every cover, each cover met with approval from one person or another in the Fashion Spot forums, so i-D is doing something right. There’s something in there for everyone. As long as you love at least one cover enough to pick up the magazine, the team at i-D has done their job while simultaneously creating some buzz. This issue looks like it’s worth picking up for the Daniele + Iango-photographed editorial alone.
