Flashback: Vogue Paris August 2006 with Hilary Rhoda by Mario Testino

The August 2006 cover of Vogue Paris featured a glamorous Hilary Rhoda wearing a Christian Dior jacket and skirt, photographed by Mario Testino and styled by Carine Roitfeld.

As vaguely as I remember seeing this cover for the first time, I can also remember tearing it up not long after I was back from Spain (yes, slap on the wrist for me). I’m just thankful we now have access to online auctions. It was like a trip down memory lane when I purchased another copy a couple of years ago.

The content offers just as much pleasure as the cover shot. Inside there are stories from Mario Testino, Peter Lindbergh, Terry Richardson, Patrick Demarchelier, Karl Lagerfeld and Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

My favorite story from the whole issue is entitled “Toute Allure” with Estonian model Carmen Kass, photographed by Richardson and styled by Emmanuelle Alt. The pictures are very different to what we’re used to seeing Richardson produce nowadays, so it’s nice to reflect on the excellence he used to produce for magazines back in 2006. This particular set of images are a delight and the editorial still remains a favorite of mine to this day. The editorial is almost like a storyboard of Kass and her lover (played by Olivier Zahm) running around Place de la Concorde in Paris on a summer’s day. It’s extremely chic and very Parisian. Alt’s use of Chanel is also very good.

They don’t make fashion magazines like this anymore, so why not familiarize yourself with this issue from 2006 by clicking here.
