As reported on our forums last week, Gigi Hadid was set to star on an upcoming cover of Vogue. The rumors are indeed true and Gigi’s well-deserved cover for the magazine’s August 2016 edition has been unveiled today. It’s a shame the model was robbed of a solo cover appearance but in the spirit of the forthcoming Olympic games, Gigi is joined by ‘the world’s greatest athlete’ Ashton Eaton. The Los Angeles native returned to her hometown to shoot the cover with famed photographer Mario Testino behind the lens. Styled by Tonne Goodman, the current face of Versace wears a scuba-inspired piece from Donatella’s Fall 2016 collection while Eaton gazes off into the distance.
The majority of our forum members were left pleasantly surprised. “I’m positively surprised. For U.S. Vogue and for Gigi, this is a decent cover. She steals the spotlight and the athlete (how American Vogue to call him “the greatest”) is a nice addition,” applauded anlabe32.
“Oooh I really like it! I actually really like Gigi and I think she looks good here. I like the composition of the cover, the set up is something a bit different and I enjoy that. I love that it’s just Gigi looking in to the lens of the camera, it keeps the focus on her and the fashion angle while still celebrating sport and Ashton,” commented LastNight.
Benn98 also liked what he saw too: “Actually ended up much better than I envisioned. Finally, a return to form for them. All that space on top of their heads look a bit odd, but otherwise I’ll take this. And yet another summer shot for August, hope this trend continues!”
“She has now covered all big four Vogue editions, wow, good for her. He is just an afterthought here though, ouch!” said Miss Dalloway.
Yet not everyone was so impressed. “Not cover worthy. Maybe there were better shots than this, because I see neither fashion nor sport in this cover. Mario is done with Vogue and there is too much Photoshop on Gigi, she looks like Karlie [Kloss] (who would have probably made this better). And that cropped arm… This is a no for me,” apple disapproved.
