Gigi Hadid Lands Her Fifth Major Campaign for Spring 2017 (and Our Forums Hate It)

Last year’s International Model of the Year, Gigi Hadid, is well on her way toward owning 2017 as well. She already has spring campaigns for Moschino, Stuart Weitzman, Fendi and Max Mara under her belt, and now adds DSquared2 to the list. Photographed by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, Gigi poses solo for the Spring 2017 campaign, complete with OTT styling and soaking wet hair.

Unfortunately, our forums are calling it Gigi’s worst campaign of the season. “Well, that got disappointing fast. Plus, it kinda looks like a cheap Prada with that look, the hair and styling,” stated Scotty straight away, setting the tone for commentary to follow.

“More often than not, I’m the first to come to Gigi Hadid’s defense when everyone’s full of criticism but that shot isn’t exactly Gigi’s most finest. I hate it when Mert & Marcus go all artsy on us – this cut and paste job here is a total eyesore,” vogue28 disapproved.

Lola701 wasn’t feeling M&M’s photography either: “I love Dsquared2 and I love this collection but they need to stop working with Mert & Marcus! I’m sorry but they hardly can do anything fresh anymore. Plus, the Gigi shot is very very similar to what Meisel did with her for Max Mara Fall 2016 with the wet hair all over the face. They need to go back to Meisel. He did wonderful and iconic campaigns for them.”

“She looks like a drowned cat!” DutchHomme exclaimed in horror.

Also not a fan was kokobombon: “I don’t mind Gigi, but everything else is a mess IMO: the styling, the concept, the execution!”

MyNameIs shared the same sentiments: “This is tragic. A cheap attempt at some of the recent Prada campaigns – which were terrible to begin with.”

“Gigi’s shot is tragic. As is most of her work, actually,” mocked an unforgiving khyrk.
