Pharrell Williams Models Chanel’s New Gabrielle Handbag in Spring Ad Campaign

We have been waiting for what feels like an eternity for Chanel’s latest campaign to drop and the wait is finally over. After Chanel’s overdone and somewhat peculiar Spring 2017 campaign with Arizona Muse, the iconic French fashion house is getting us excited for the new Karl Lagerfeld-designed Gabrielle handbag. To coincide with the release of the new It bag, Lagerfeld shot a handful of his muses wearing different variations of the bag, including Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne, Caroline de Maigret and, of course, Pharrell Williams. The first man to appear in a handbag campaign for Chanel (but not his first appearance as a Chanel ambassador), Pharrell comfortably models the black crocodile version of the bag, while also posing for one of Lagerfeld’s classic studio images (after the jump).

Unfortunately, our forum members weren’t feeling it. “I’m indifferent aboutPharrell’s shot. His desperation with being tied to anything Chanel related has reached epic proportions. It’s actually quite embarrassing. I’ve never seen someone so hungry for fashion acclaim. He’s now like a modern day Becky Sharp!” stated Benn98.

“I love how senile Karl is that in his world Pharrell is still a big deal. Remember his Vive La Fete days? Yeah…” MulletProof chimed in.

Not everyone was disenchanted with Pharrell’s affiliation, however. “I like Pharrell as a face of Chanel. He has worn Chanel Homme for quite some time now…maybe ten years!. He has quite a different style that suits Chanel and he is confident enough to sell it. The campaign is really good. Simple, effective and without a gimmicky styling,” admired Lola701.

TaylorBinque echoed the sentiments, posting, “Most of my friends who are not super fashion think Pharrell is cool and extremely relevant and they think he’s very fashionable. I think since Karl’s ties with G-Dragon, Pharrell seems like a good fit for me. I do like the simplicity of the campaign.”
