Rihanna Channels Queen Nefertiti for Vogue Arabia’s November 2017 Issue

Since launching in March with a captivating Gigi Hadid cover, Vogue Arabia has continued to make its mark at the newsstands. The magazine has delivered gorgeous covers featuring Imaan Hammam, Pooja Mor and Halima Aden, and celebrated a handful of Arabian women on the October issue last month. For November 2017, global superstar Rihanna is unveiled as the title’s new cover girl while channeling Egyptian queen Nefertiti on two unique covers photographed by Greg Kadel.

Unfortunately, some of our forum members felt let down by the outcome. “I feel like magazines always do too much with Rihanna… she’s such a beauty that a natural shot of her would be so much more striking than her in this costume. Although I don’t mind the makeup, they should’ve of just stripped everything else off. Had she been bare-shouldered I would have loved this,” critiqued A.D.C.

“After all the hype, this is what we get? It’s quite hideous and I’m not sure why they’re so fond of that backdrop,” Benn98 chimed in.

Also not feeling it was magsaddict. “I feel like with all the resources and access provided to Vogue, they should be producing far superior quality work than this. I mean this is one of the world’s biggest stars and it looks like a bad ‘Cover Challenge’ entry,” he scolded.

“I expected more,” khyrk simply stated.

“It looks really amateur and blurry. It’s like they tried to match the headpiece with the coat with the makeup with the background, because God forbid something stands out,” wrote dodencebt.

Although not everyone was disappointed. “I honestly love everything, the makeup looks amazing on her eyes,” admired forum member thatsfierce.

Narcyza was a fan too: “I love the Nefertiti concept, and Rihanna is perfect for this!”
