The first photos from the set of The Great Gatsby have just been released, and the famous cast looks just grand in their 1920s finery.
Gemma Ward is making her acting debut as secondary character Catherine, and a released still (below) shows the model decked out in a beaded sequin dress and feathers, her hair styled in finger waves. The picture will surely tug on the heartstrings of every fashion fanatic and costume design crazy.
The model is joining a seasoned cast of Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire. Leo was pretty much born for the part, Tobey is darling, and Carey Mulligan is just flawless.
The cast and visual language of the Great Gatsby will likely be the high point of the film. The immensely famous and well-plotted F. Scott Fitzgerald novel is prime material for a movie adaptation, but since it's directed by Baz Luhrmann (the con-artist responsible for the horror film Romeo + Juliet) and shot in 3D, when we all traipse out to the theater next December for the release, we'll likely be going for the pretty, pretty people and the pretty, pretty clothes—and nothing else.
