Mathilde Castello Branco Named Creative Director at Azzaro

Mathilde Castello BrancoWhen Vanessa Seward announced that she was leaving the French label Azzaro in March, there was major buzz about who would replace her. Seward, who took the reins at the label after the death of Loris Azzaro in 2003, completely reinvigorated the brand by creating relationships with celebrities such as Diane Kruger, Natalie Portman, Penelope Cruz, and Emily Blunt resulting in a huge red carpet presence. The label needed someone with serious fashion cred that wasn't a stranger to a luxury brand and they found her in Mathilde Castello Branco (right). The Brazillian-born Paris-based designer got her career start at Hermes working under Martin Margiela and then moved over to work at Lanvin in 2001. Castello Branco says that she wants the brand to be about pleasing the woman in the garment, not necessarily dressing for others. The studio will show a collection for Spring 2012 but we'll have to wait until Pre-Fall to see what Castello Branco has up her sleeve for the brand.
