Lindsay Lohan was supposed to jet out of Honolulu after her Hawaiian vacation and get to New York in time to tape a segment on the Ellen Degeneres Show to promote her latest project, a spread for Playboy.
But LiLo missed her flight out of Hawaii and the Ellen show, wrapping up taping for the season, couldn't schedule her in for a later date. Her rep claimed that Lindsay blew off the promo engagement because of "travel-related reasons," but that she'd still make it to L.A. in time for her court date.
The Ellen show has been promoting Lindsay's appearance nonstop, and the appearance was written into LiLo's contract months ago as her only promotional obligation to the magazine. You've got to feel sorry for jilted bride Ellen, one of the most generous-hearted interviewers in the talk show business. She surely would have been the best choice to spin Lindsay's Playboy activities without humiliating the once-actress/now-wreck.
But if we get down to the psychology of flakedom, Lindsay's unprofessionalism makes a lot of sense. Flaking is never the best way to handle a problem, but flaking is always a response to a problem: the flaker only flakes on things he or she doesn't actually want to do. And as you might have gauged if you took a look at the Playboy spread, the nude shoot seemed to be an extremely unpleasant experience for the young woman. She looked just miserable, and if you have any heart at all, the photos likely made you very sad. Let's be real, here: Ellen might be, by all accounts, a wonderful human being, but chatting with anyone about a Playboy shoot of horrors on a daytime talk show does not seem appealing.
