Roberto Cavalli has gotten on the digital bandwagon, launching his very own Twitter and blog. Even though the Twitter is still very whatever, I have faith that the Italian designer will soon be hashtagging with the best of them. But til then, his blog is another story entirely.
In part because he's writing in non-native English, in part because he's old (but young at heart at 72), but mostly because he's living in a euphoric bubble of luxury and practically limitless power, his scribblings (typings?) are hilarious by default.
From his first post:
I have many many things to tell you about my life… which I call “MY ADVENTURE ”
I have so many things to tell you, so many things you don’t know about me.
For example, that I came into fashion for a chance to meet all the beautiful women… Strange, all my colleagues are gay!
Then, fashion and being able to create special clothes for special women conquered me and I began to enjoy stripping and dressing the most beautiful women in the world!
For all his Don Juan-ing, Cavalli comes across as a very charming, tender-hearted man, who loves what he loves (women, champagne, and cigars, apparently) and loves earnestly. The designer decided to treat his blog mostly as a personal journal, not a running commentary on fashion happenings, but as an industry bigwig, choice tidbits litter his diaries in the most delightful way:
Right now I am having dinner at the Hotel Costes, one of the trendiest hotels. I have organized a nice evening for the birthday of my lovely friend Franca Sozzani with a few other friends and a great champagne…
