An insider-y new documentary series about the 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund premiered yesterday on Hulu. The six-part show follows 10 finalists, chosen out of 200, as they compete, via design challenges and fashion shows, for the top prize. If Fashion Fund Confidential sounds a lot like Project Runway, that's because the competition is a lot Project Runway, but was conceived to offer emerging designers support in furthering their careers, not to entertain viewers. To that end, the show's more focused on showing the competition's behind-the-scenes deliberations and process, not building up suspense. It's a chance to see Anna Wintour in action, glory of all glories. So here's a non-spoiler: Joseph Altuzarra wins.
The Fund was launched in 2003, and past winners are now major fashion names: Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, and Rodarte have all nabbed the top prize.
