True fashion obsessives might want nothing to do with NYFW stargazing, but placing a well-chosen celebrity in the front row of a runway show can improve the brand's visibility in the mainstream. Fashion publications may gravitate to the editors and other power players sitting runway-side, but pop culture, celebrity, and general interest sites are more likely to cover a show when it's packed with some real star power.
This NYFW has been disappointing, celebrity-wise. Nina Dobrev and Shay Mitchell may have cult followings, but they aren't household names—and frankly, it's a little sad that the most exciting non-industry front row faces act in teen soaps. To that end, Taylor Momsen's tenure at Gossip Girl did cement her fame, but her questionable behavior raised eyebrows in the world at large while her questionable style raised eyebrows in the fashion world.
Taylor Momsen's been wearing Marchesa and attending shows for years, but she's been out of sight lately, ever since she departed from GG, and her appearance at the brand's Fall 2012 show was a little disorienting, like an acid flashback.
