Last night, the fashion establishment came out in full force for Parsons' annual Fashion Benefit. The long list of guests included Donna Karan, Narciso Rodriguez, Reed Krakoff, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Francisco Costa, Diane Von Furstenberg — and trust me, the list goes on and on and on.
In addition to running through various new iniatives, announcing new scholarships, showing select fashion presentations by Parsons students, the evening also serves as an occasion to announce the winners of the school's Designers of the Year awards. This year, the prizes went to Jin Kay for womenswear, Christy Jeehyun Lee for menswear, and Giuliana Raggiani for children's wear. Congrats to all three! Now you have no choice but to live up to your potential and become wild success stories. Go forth and do your best to live up to everyone's expectations.

Setting my slightly mean-spirited jokes aside, Jin Kay's work really is quite strong. Judging from the lookbooks up on his personal website, his taste level is high and the garments appear to be unusually polished and refined for student work. Even though his designs are a little too Rick Owens-y, it's apparent that he has serious chops and an aesthetic fashion critics — and maybe even buyers — would lap up.
