If strict deadlines are the bane of creativity, we can give supposedly bi-annual art/culture/fashion publication Doingbird a pass for its lengthy hiatus. For the magazine’s long-awaited 16th issue, publisher, photographer and all-round creative hotshot Max Doyle has shot Julia Nobis as part of a kaleidoscopically coloured editorial also featuring rising Melbourne model Sophie “Hirschy” Hirschfelder.
Both girls strike a dramatic pose in graphic prints, menswear-inspired suits and separates, and heavy metallic accents. Though it’s Julia’s intense yellow hair, patchy pink and violet streaks, and thickly-pencilled brows that’s definitely worth attempting to replicate at home if you happen to be blessed with the bone structure of an unearthly being.
Doingbird #16 also features a slew of other local and global creative talents including but not limited to Patti Smith, Bruce Webber, Eugene Souleiman, Franz Gertsch, Alasdair McLellan, Didier Malige, Linda Sterling and Rick Owens, and the Benjamin Alexander Huseby-lensed Marte Mei cover is alone worth spending your hard-earned pennies on getting the issue shipped over from Colette. Here’s hoping #17 isn’t too much longer than another six months away.
