Lena Dunham Is Writing a Fashion Comedy Series

It all seemed like a waste of brain space, so I adapted a kind of defensive posture with regards to being online: the Internet is a Girls minefield and I now travel with extreme caution.

It’s been exhausting. I think I have a cold.

That’s why I’m not happy to have to pass along this news: there’s more coming.

Deadline.com is reporting that Lena Dunham and her Girls showrunner Jenni Konner have just signed on to write HBO’s new project, a comedy series based on legendary Bergdorf Goodman personal shopper Betty Halbreich‘s forthcoming memoir, All Dressed Up And Everywhere To Go.

So all that stuff about how Girls is the (hipper) second coming of Sex and the City? Apparently just the warm-up. Halbreich has been shopping for New York-y celebs like Joan Rivers, Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker, Katie Couric and Glenn Close for decades. She’s also a TV and film wardrobe consultant, and has worked on NYC style-defining projects like early Woody Allen movies and Sex and the City.

Halbreich seems wonderful and it seems like her life’s been an interesting one, but I just can’t stomach the probability of a glitzier, more high-budget future version of Girls. I’m going to have to get a helmet. Or a lobotomy.
