There's a Change.org petition circulating to protest John Galliano's new Parsons teaching job. So far just 160 people have signed, but based on the visible responses, many of the signatures come from current The New School students and alumni.
The remarks on the petition include a message to the university: "Anti-Semitic Fashion Designer John Galliano should not teach at the school as it undermines the school's respect for their entire Jewish body."
It is actually a crazy appointment considering The New School's legacy. The University in Exile was a graduate division founded in 1933 as a haven for Jewish academics and writers fleeing the Nazi regime. And soon there'll be an instructor on staff who's famous for saying, "I love Hitler."
