How Many Times Has Kate Moss Modeled Nude?

Self tanning brand St. Tropez has just released advertising images featuring its first-ever ambassador, Kate Moss. One of the images shows the model wearing, in the words of WWD, “nothing but a St. Tropez tan.” And, we assume, makeup.

But why split hairs? The supermodel looks fantastic, a dead ringer for a supermodel doing a super job modeling for a luxe self-tanning brand. Mission accomplished, and all for only $4 million. The campaign was photographed by Sølve Sundsbø and styled by Katy England. Hair and makeup were done by Sam McKnight and Val Garland; Nichola Joss did the tanner (first time I’ve ever seen someone credited as a tanning stylist!).

(So much sarcasm, I know, I’m sorry, I can’t help myself — my sincerity bone broke upon contact with generational irony and cruel twisted fate. BUT: I recently chatted with a representative from St. Tropez, who was literally applying the tanner to her body throughout our conversation, and I came away with the impression that it’s actually a pretty great product. The tanner applies evenly and looks natural on skin in real life, and I am particularly enthusiastic about it given the damaging side effects of its biggest competitor, the sun.)

Still: Kate Moss nude. For something that feels like an unprecedented event, there sure are a lot of precedents. I was going to tally the number of times the British model has appeared naked, intentionally, for fashion and beauty photographs. Um, but then I realized there’s a whole Tumblr devoted to it: Naked Kate dot Tumblr dot com. NSFW, obviously.
