J.W. Anderson’s Final Collection for Sunspel

You can’t really blame him for needing to scale down the commitments a little having been shot into the fashion stratosphere since the launch of his menswear label in 2007 and womenswear in 2008. The more recent accomplishment of investment from LVMH last September has brought new attention to his brand, not to mention the fact that he will be taking the reigns at Spanish label Loewe as its creative director. It makes us tired just listing all of his jobs.

Ying and Yang cashmere intarsia sweater; £350, contrast panel dress; £125, pleated vest layer skirt; £275 all available at Sunspel

Speaking to Vogue today, John seems to have taken a great deal of inspiration from the 154-year-old brand: “Working with Sunspel really taught me how to create basics of the highest quality and this collection is a take on classics — and using the classic elements of a wardrobe and rehashing them into something new. I followed the same organic process of experimenting on the body and cutting up and patching shapes and textures together.”

This education has certainly paid off with this final offering, with signature knife pleat midi skirts and baby soft intarsia cashmere knits, alongside contrast panel dresses in jersey and cellular mesh with raw hems. Each piece is handmade in England with prices ranging from £85 – £350, which is a joy to the bank balance as well as the wardrobe.

This shift in Anderson’s partnerships signifies the dynamic shift that his brand has taken with only bigger things to come, although he told Vogue the next thing he is looking forward to is a holiday, which sounds fair enough.
