Don’t Want to Get Out of Bed, Ever? This Is the Avant-Garde Runway Trend for You

The only thing I love more than being in bed is having my bed-dwelling validated. (“A Nika is a kind of creature that can be found in beds, often with a book,” my boyfriend once explained. “Nikas like warm things, such as blankets and coffee.”) Welllll lucky me: this March, some of fashion’s most inventive designers turned to The Wonderful World of Being in Bed as inspiration for their Fall 2014 collections.

Or so says the Japanese art and design website Spoon & Tamago, labeling the trend “futon fashion.”

“This winter was cold. Brutally cold. And judging by the runway shows that Japanese fashion designers just released for the Fall 2014 season, cold was just about the only thing on their minds too. Japanese masters Rei Kawakubo (for Comme des Garcons), Yohji Yamamoto and Junya Watanabe all showcased voluminous, futon-like coats that conjure up images of warm bedding.”
