No one knows how serious the team at Instagram is about nudity better than Rihanna, whose @badgalriri profile is still suspended after she posted a few photos of her very naked Lui magazine shoot a few weeks ago. Grace Coddington is the latest to feel the ire of IG, only less than a week after joining the social media site. On Thursday, she posted her first to Instagram, a nudie self-portrait of herself sunbathing, to promote her Paddle8 "No Clothes" auction. By Saturday, her profile was deleted for violating Instagram's "no nude" policy.
If you think it sounds ridiculous to punish someone for posting cartoon boobs–which were little more than two demi-circles with dots–to their profile, you're not the only one. Fans and friends called out IG for the misstep, which got the social media site's attention. They restored her account, admitting to The Cut that they messed up. "When our team processes reports from other members of the Instagram community, we occasionally make a mistake," they said in a statement. "In this case, we wrongly removed content and worked to rectify the error as soon as we were notified. We apologize for any [inconvenience.]"
Thankfully, Coddington's profile is back up, and she's still 'gramming. Her latest is a drawing of her two cats, one sitting up with a black bar across his no-no region, with the caption: "Good grief Pumpkin, Mother drew a nude selfie for her very first Instagram. No wonder they shut her down……she is much fatter than that." Good one, Grace.
Hopefully, the folks at Instagram will extend this kindness to poor Rihanna, whose marked absence on our timelines has been pretty depressing…
