Size 22 Tess Holliday Makes Plus-Sized Modeling History

We can add this milestone to the list of the fashion industry’s strides to be more size-inclusive: Tess Holliday (aka Tess Munster), plus-sized model, blogger and body positive activist, has scored herself a contract with London-based modeling firm MiLK Management. You’re probably thinking, “Good for her, why is this a big deal?” It’s because Tess, who wears a size 22 and clocks in at 5 feet 5 inches, is the first woman of her stature to score this kind of deal.

Tess, who lives in Los Angeles, has already appeared in Vogue Italia and has been modeling for some time. She said she had been interested in modeling for a while, but was always told she was too large and too short to fit the bill. But one look at her portfolio will show you the girl’s got some skills and that talk about her not having what it takes? All hogwash.

The tattooed beauty says she is the founder of #EffYourBeautyStandards, an Instagram page where men and women of all shapes and sizes preen and pose for the camera to show that indeed, it doesn’t matter if you adhere to society’s narrow expectations of what looks good, you can still be a stone cold fox.

We’re hoping that Tess’ success is only the beginning for other women like her — obviously, there is a lot of work still left to do, but maybe other modeling agencies will consider signing women (and men) with different body types in the future.
