Gwyneth Paltrow Totally Gets the Common Woman

For someone who has been mocked for being out of touch, Gwyneth Paltrow should understand by now that her life as a Hollywood actress, lifestyle guru and woman whose family’s diet will set you back about $300/day is indeed not the norm for most people. But that’s not the way Paltrow sees it.

When CNN Money asked the actress if she, with her lavish Hollywood life, is in any way remotely close to the common woman, Paltrow answered in the affirmative. “I am incredibly close to the common woman in that I’m a woman,” she said completely seriously. “I’m a mother and we all are in a physical body with beating hearts, with compassion and love. We are all seekers, we all want fulfillment, we all want to live our best lives, we want to be healthy and happy and squeeze the most we can out of life.” So because Paltrow meets the minimum requirement of what it means to be a human being, she therefore lives in the same reality as the average Jane taking the subway to work every day. Right.

CNN pressed the issue, referencing her reputation for being out of touch with the average woman. Paltrow went on the defensive. “I always say when people make that false assumption, it’s because they haven’t actually gone to the site and seen what we’re selling,” which just so happens to be  $1,095 blazers and a $685 stack of coffee table books. Yep. Totally something the common woman can afford.

Someone should ask Paltrow next time if she’s confusing the common woman with the common millionaire.
